VISA UPDATE
RETIREMENT SCHEME (Resident Guest Scheme)
We understand that the government have now introduced a "Retirement Visa Scheme"
The information we have received in this regard is as follows.
It is now possible for foreigners to obtain resident visa's to reside permanently in Sri Lanka providing they can comply with the following rules.
For a couple or single person, it is required that a sum of US$15,000 be deposited in a bank account in Sri Lanka as a security bond, you must
also provide proof on income which must be paid into the same account and can be withdrawn in Sri Lankan Rupees only, the minimum
requirement is US$1,500 for a single person per month and US$2,250 per month for a married couple.
You must also take out medical insurance for each person and provide proof of this.
Providing you can comply with the above, you may apply for resident status, which allows you to remain in Sri Lanka 12 months a year,
However, this is a retirement scheme and the visa holders are not permitted to work, or run a business of any kind.
